Hi, I’m Fin. A twenty-something year old with a passion for investing.
By day I am an Investment Manager for a City firm and by night I scribble down my thoughts on the constantly changing world of finance here. I am qualified as a Chartered Wealth Manager and I am a Durham University business graduate.
The reason for starting this site was simple. I wanted to be able to explain the world of finance and the complexities that come with it in a clear, simple, easy-to-understand way to people of a similar age to me.
The home of ideas (good and bad!), the pub, was the source of my inspiration. Over the last few years I had increasingly noticed that often the Friday evening chatter turned to an area that my friends didn’t have much knowledge or even interest in. The world of wealth and investment management.
It came to a head one evening in March 2016 when a close friend, exasperated by the jargon-heavy and poorly explained booklet about his pension provided by his workplace, asked me to spell out what it all meant – ranging from “How does a pension work?” to “Where should I invest it?”
If you read any of the financial press then you will see that there is concern the UK is headed towards an ‘advice gap’. Simply, the Government is worried that as people approach and plan their retirement they are unequipped and financially-ignorant to successfully navigate this process.
